Want to surprise your colleagues? Try these “Shukran” alternatives

Hi there,

If you already know شكراً(shukran), you’re off to a great start in your learning Arabic journey. But in Saudi Arabia, people often use a variety of everyday expressions to show appreciation. Here are three you’ll hear all the time:

🤝 يعطيك العافية (ya‘ṭeek al-‘āfiyah)
Literally “may God give you strength,” but used just like “thanks” or “appreciate it.”

🌟 ما قصّرت (ma gassart)
A warm way of saying “you didn’t fall short”—basically, “you really helped.”

🙏جزاك الله خير (Jazak Allah Khayr)
A heartfelt phrase meaning “may God reward you with goodness.” Very common in Saudi dialect.

Try dropping one of these into your next conversation—you’ll sound a little more local than just “shukran.”
